1st Bootcamp. Oct 7-8. Porto
Democracy Begins in the Dirt
07 Oct - 08 Oct @ Porto
Introduction
The SOILTRIBES project includes a series of bootcamps designed as intensive, collaborative learning spaces that bring together diverse participants—ranging from local community actors and farmers to researchers, artists, and digital democrats
Details
The 1st bootcamp is designed around a participatory, arts-based learning loop, with three main phases:
-
Sensing & Storying the Territory:
Participants engage in field visits, storytelling, mapping, and creative exercises to surface local knowledge, struggles, and relationships with soil.
Artistic tools (e.g. drawing, theater, soundwalks) help express invisible or marginalised perspectives, including those of non-human actors.
-
Deliberation & Co-Design:
Small assemblies or breakout groups deliberate on key soil justice issues (access, contamination, ownership, biodiversity, etc.).
Participants co-design proposals, possible policy actions, or forms of collective care for the land.
-
Prototyping & Digital Activation:
Outputs (narratives, proposals, governance ideas) are uploaded to the SOILTRIBES Decidim platform, allowing others to comment, refine, prioritize, and follow-up.
This ensures the longevity of the bootcamp’s work beyond the physical event.
